How NOT To Make Money As a Teen

BFly1 How NOT To Make Money As a Teen

Teens are always trying to come up with ways for how to make money. But some of the ways they come up with are just plain ridiculous, stupid or dangerous. Below are a few articles showing how NOT to make money as a teen:

Teen sold himself for money online

HE WANTED to look good and dress well. So the teenager, then aged 15, decided to get money from strangers, offering ‘paid fun’.

His mother knew nothing about his prostitution, though she did notice that he wore expensive clothes and had lots of money. But an anonymous phone call out of the blue revealed the unpleasant truth in May 2007.

After she confronted her son and learnt what he was up to, she lodged a police report on 18 May that year.
According to court documents, the boy had been chatting with strangers on social networking websites since he was in Primary 3.

He came across a website popular with homosexuals here five years ago and later started posting messages and chatting there. In December 2006, as he needed money to ‘maintain his lifestyle’, the boy posted messages on the website saying he was ’seeking paid fun’.

The boy cannot be named due to a court order.

On the website, he said he was 16, but he revealed his real age to anyone he met personally or chatted with on the telephone. A month or two after the boy posted the messages, Thomas Song Choon Chen, 37, responded and agreed to pay him $50 in exchange for sexual favours.

The boy told Chen his address and they met at the boy’s home at 9am the same day. When Chen arrived at the flat, the boy, who was in school uniform, told him he was actually 15 years old.

After leading Chen to his bedroom, the boy undressed himself. Chen then performed sexual acts with the boy and paid the boy later and left.

Chen kept in touch with the boy for some time, but the relationship later ended.

New Zealand teen sells nude pictures of mum online

A NEW Zealand teenager tried to sell sexy photos of his mother in her underwear online to make some quick cash. While most 18-year-olds would balk at the thought of their parents naked, Auckland student Michael appeared comfortable with the concept, twice listing nude and semi-clothed images of his 44-year-old mother Jennifer.

The first time he auctioned “five naked photos of my mum” to annoy her after the pair had an argument, he told the Herald on Sunday newspaper.

When TradeMe removed the listing the following day he relisted a second series of “glamour photos” with her permission.

This time there was more clothing but one was an underwear shot.

Michael, who did not want his full name used, said he did it for the extra cash.

“We’re not rich or anything,” he said.

Jennifer said she was “pretty annoyed” by the first listing, calling her son a “cheeky little git”, but liked the second lot because they were “quite artistic”.

“There’s nothing dodgy about them. They were taken by a family friend about eight years ago,” Jennifer told the newspaper.

“I wanted 50 per cent of the sale but more than that, I miss the nice comments.”

The photos were viewed 11,000 times before they were pulled by the website’s management, citing “inappropriateness”.

“We don’t really want to be the place where people list photos of their mums in their underwear,” TradeMe spokesman Jon Macdonald said.

Stu Hemesath offered himself up as a prom date on eBay.

Stu Hemesath, a high school senior from La Porte City, Iowa, came up with the idea to auction himself off while he was studying in class. “I’ve sold things on eBay before,” he said. “I just thought it would be cool to go to other people’s proms and even get a little money for it.” Hemesath had seen auctions like this up on the site before, but none have gotten as much exposure — media outlets from NPR to The Associated Press have reported on his listing. “Others would get like 2,000 hits on their site. I got over 50,000, I think.”

As an informal disclaimer in the listing, which went up March 10, the student wrote, “Don’t think that just because I’m putting myself on eBay that I’m a douche bag. I’m not a chump.” In fact, the 18-year-old prizes himself on being a great, ahem, buy. “Don’t look any farther!” he exclaims in the ad. “I’m the best-looking prom date for sale on eBay, so quit wasting your time looking for a date. Actually, forget the date you already have — he doesn’t even like you. Place a bid to take me to your prom.”

Kay, who has already paid for her goods, told reporters she placed the bid just to make an ex-boyfriend jealous. She isn’t even planning to go to the prom this year, according to Hemesath, who has spoken with the high school junior “probably four or five times” since the auction ended on March 17. However, the two are planning on meeting up at a later date.

Hemesath also made sure to include a description of himself in the listing, because as he put it, “I don’t think I would place a bid on someone you know nothing about.” The 5′10”, 150-pound blond (with stunning green eyes, incidentally) says he plays various sports, namely wrestling, which “is the only [sport] that matters.” He was also voted the nicest guy in his class, “but that was, like, three years ago.” The student athlete also included photos of himself in his wrestling uniform, as well as two prior formal photos from homecoming and prom.

Hemesath received more than 30 Instant Messages and 70 e-mails from people who had seen his eBay ad. “When it was up, I only had national publicity so no one in Iowa really knew of it,” he said.

Hemesath, who is planning to attend the University of Iowa, where he’ll major in computer science, also stated in the listing that the winning gal will have to foot the bill for everything. “But if you’re nice-looking, I’ll probably get you a nice flower,” he added.
