- basket
- candy (bar chocolates, sugar coated candy, lollipops, jelly beans, m & m, Hershey’s kisses etc.)
- decorative cellophane
- ribbon/satin bow
- filler material (foam, shredded color paper, tissue paper, ribbon pieces etc.)
- rubber stamps
- markers
- plain card and envelope.
Here is the step-by-step guide on how to make a candy gift basket at home.
1. Firstly, you need a sufficiently large basket. You can buy such baskets at a dollar store for about $5 to $10 each. Else, pick up a basket lying at home, or buy one at a flea market/garage sale. You can then paint it, so it looks new. Recycling, rocks!
2. You now need to select candies to fill your candy gift basket. If you plan to make several gift baskets, it is best to buy in wholesale. You can get 3 or 4 different types of candies including bar chocolates, sugar coated candy, lollipops, jelly beans, m & m, Hershey’s kisses and so on. If you find a candle that smells or looks like candy, buy that too. Stick with the theme and everything will work out just great.
3. Select an assortment of candies that you would like to fill into the basket.
4. Wrap each piece of candy with cellophane paper. Use cellophane that has gold, silver, red or green print. This gives the candy gift basket a festive look. If you don’t have the time, you can always skip this step.
5. To elevate the level of the goodies inside your gift basket, add filler material to the basket. At the base, you can add an old piece of foam. Then fill the basket with a decorative filler layer.You could use plastic grass, shredded color paper or even ribbon pieces. Fill the basket with the assortment of wrapped candies.
6. Once you have filled the basket with candy, we need to wrap the basket in cellophane paper. So, cut out a sufficiently large piece of cellophane paper and lay it on a flat surface. Keep the gift basket at the center of the cellophane paper. Now, grab all the edges of the paper and pull the ends towards the top.
7. Tie the ends of the cellophane paper with a pretty satin ribbon or bow. If there is excess of cellophane paper, you can cut some, so it looks like a flower.
8. The only thing that remains to be done next is inclusion of a card and envelope. Take a plain card and decorate it using rubber stamps and markers. Include this card and envelope with your candy gift basket. Whoever buys the candy gift basket from you, can now write a personalized message in the card.
