How to Market Your MySpace Design Business By Using MySpace Itself

BFly1 How to Market Your MySpace Design Business By Using MySpace Itself

So you now know how to design MySpace pages and how to earn money from it – what should your next step be? Well, marketing your services, of course! In order to get new customers, and get your business up and running, you need to develop a few marketing strategies that won’t cost you anything and are easy to do, namely:

  1. Tell your friends. Tell people you know. Use word-of-mouth strategy.
  2. Market yourself offline. This is something that you need to do when you are out and about and not working in front of your computer. Attend gigs and ask the bands there if they already have a MySpace page, and if they are interested in someone making one for them, ergo: you. Look around your neighborhood and find small businesses that would benefit from a little online presence, and present your services to them. You never know, they might be very interested but just haven’t thought of it before.
  3. Create website and drive traffic towards it. Write about your business, and showcase your designs.

But why not use MySpace itself to let people know that you’re available for custom work and designs?

How to Market Your MySpace Design Business By Using MySpace Itself

  1. Make your own MySpace page really cool. Of course, that’s the first thing you should do. Show the world that you’ve got the right to design, because you can, and you are awesome at it. Make your MySpace page the envy of a lot of people. Soon a lot of people will be leaving comments at your page, asking how you did it, or if you can help them out.
  2. Fill out your profile and bio. Share something about yourself so that people will get to know you as friendly, approachable and likable. A lot of businesses thrive not only because they are great at handling their company but also because of their transparency, willingness to relate to people and openness.
  3. Upload snapshots of a few of your designs. Create an album full of screen shots of your custom MySpace designs. Label them appropriately so that it would be easier for people to browse or see what they want. For example, you can label it according to theme: Preppy, Corporate, Musician, Christmas. Or you can group them according to color: black and white, red, pink. You can also categorize them by design elements: stars, stripes, circles.
  4. Upload another album with a picture file of instructions (you can also put them in your blog but it would be better if they’re in the same place where your designs are). Let them know how people can leave requests to you (either send you an email, a private message, or leave a comment).
  5. Sell and take requests. You can choose to sell whatever designs are already uploaded in the album, and then aside from that, take requests for a more personalized design. You can charge higher for these since they are personalized and unique, meaning no other MySpace user will have the same look.
  6. Join groups on graphic design or other related interests and network with other people there. Be friendly and make sure to encourage people to add you. Having many friend connections mean a wider audience to receive news about your products and services and a potential market to get your clients from.
  7. Another option is to create an entirely separate MySpace account from your personal one so you can direct all business-related comments and inquiries here. Customize the username to showcase your service, like “myspacedesign” or “awesomedesigns”.
  8. Make sure that you have a means to receive payment. Use a service like PayPal so that you have reliable means of getting paid. It would also make it easier for your clients to send you the money, which is a big plus. Remember not to release or give out any design until you have been paid.
  9. Offer promotions. You can announce in your network that your 100th follower will get a free makeover of their MySpace page.
  10. Be aggressive in self-marketing. Post news in bulletins, write blog posts, and put a signature in your forum posts linking back to your designs. Make sure that you have a catchy headline or signature quote to make people click that link back to your site.
  11. Make your customers feel special. Connect with them always and be friendly. Answer any questions as politely as you can. You can also feature your customer in your profile by creating another album with an engaging title like “I love my customers” or “Fantastic Clients”. Then ask for photos of your clients holding out a sign saying they love you or “I love [name of your business or your username here]“. It could be something that you can collect and put in an album. Your customers will feel appreciated and of course, quite popular to be displayed there. Let them know that your site is being viewed by hundreds of people and it would be great exposure for them, too.
  12. Offer your expertise and advice. You can make use of your blog in your MySpace as a portion where you can share some tips or tricks regarding designing MySpace pages. You can also make an FAQ (Frequent Asked Questions) post for things that are commonly asked to you. You can also provide a help page in case something goes wrong with the HTML or CSS code of the layouts that you have done.
  13. Sync your social media accounts. Link to your Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other accounts so that you will gain more exposure and people will get to know you better.
  14. Reach out to other MySpace users. Whether they are individuals, bands or corporate accounts, make an effort to roam around MySpace as well and network. Leave comments and messages in other MySpace pages. Tell them about yourself and what you do, and leave a link back to your work in case they are interested in being friends or asking for a customized design. Add them also as your friends and write them private messages to let them know that you are making your services available to them.
  15. Create a MySpace thread about your work. Find the proper forum topic and make a thread announcing what you do. Show off your designs and let people know you are available for commission and some of your designs are for sale as well.
