How to Start a Chocolate Gift Basket Home-Based Business

BFly1 How to Start a Chocolate Gift Basket Home-Based Business

A chocolate gift basket home-based business is by far the most lucrative business you could get into as a teenager. It requires very low investment and you can make a good amount of money selling these. These gift baskets are the easiest to put together and there is a lot of scope for selling them. This is not just for chocolate lovers. It is a great gift idea for valentines, birthdays, festivals and any other occasion you can think of.

Visit a dollar store and a super-market to pick up all the materials that are needed to put together a chocolate theme gift basket. You will require the following materials:

  • basket (wicker basket or any other large container, with or without a handle will do.)
  • filler material (colored tissue paper and ribbon pieces/shredded color paper/plastic grass)
  • chocolate theme items like Hershey’s kisses, bar chocolates, Cadbury’s chocolates, chocolate-chip cookies, hot chocolate mixes, dark chocolate bars, mugs to drink hot chocolate from, chocolate making cook-book and so on.
  • decorative cellophane (silver/gold/orange/green/red printed cellophane)
  • ribbon/satin bow
  • rubber stamps
  • markers
  • plain card and envelope.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to put together a chocolate gift basket.

1. The first thing you need is a medium-sized basket/container to put all the chocolate theme goodies in. You don’t always need to stick with a wicker basket. You can use any container that is sufficiently large to hold the items. If you want to buy a wicker basket, visit a dollar store or a yard sale. An old container lying at home can be used too. All it might need is a fresh coat of paint, so get creative!

2. Once you have selected the gift basket container, some preparation is needed before you can toss in the chocolate theme items. Place colored tissue at the bottom of the basket. This is the first layer of filler material. Add a second filler layer. You can use shredded color paper, plastic grass or ribbon pieces. The fillers not only make the gift basket look more appealing, but they also elevate the level of the gifts inside the basket. So they help in making the basket look fuller than it actually is.

3. Now that you have filled the basket with the filler materials, gather the gift items to be included in the basket. When you think of a chocolate gift basket, you can include a wide range of gift items that are related to the chocolate theme. Include things like Hershey’s kisses, bar chocolates, Cadbury’s chocolates, chocolate-chip cookies, hot chocolate mixes, dark chocolate bars, mugs to drink hot chocolate from, chocolate making cook-book and so on.

4.  If you want the gift basket to look festive, wrap individual items in cellophane paper having silver/gold print. You can use cellophane that has red, orange or any other color print too, but gold and silver are my all time favorites.

5. On top of the filler material, start placing the individual gift items. Be careful while placing items like mugs, as they are breakable. It is always a good idea to keep the breakable items at the center of the gift basket and surround it with other items that can act like a cushion. So you can place the mugs at the center of the basket, and place things like the hot chocolate mixes, and chocolates around the mugs.

6. Cut a sufficiently large piece of cellophane and lay it on a flat surface. Keep the gift basket at the center of the cellophane paper, and pull all the free ends of the cellophane upwards.

7. You can use a pretty satin ribbon or bow to tie the free ends of the cellophane, at the top of the container.

8. Finally, include a gift tag or a card and envelope. I prefer a card and envelope, so that people have enough space to write down a simple message. You can decorate a plain card using rubber stamps/markers and then, include this card and an envelope with your gift basket.

What a minute, this tells you how to make a basket, not how to sell the basket…you said you could sell them, but where, how?
