There’s something to be learned from movies, whether the plot is based on a true story or not. Life, money and motivation have always been universal topics, and Hollywood is not immune from it. Although films can sometimes make a situation larger than life, if you look close enough you can get something valuable from them. I thought I’d collect some of the most useful pieces of advice that I have watched in the recent years and share them with you:
Kevin Spacey in Pay It Forward
Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society
“But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? — Carpe — hear it? — Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness
“I’m the type of person – if you ask me a question, and I don’t know the answer, I’ll tell you I don’t know. But I bet you what – I know how to find the answer, and I WILL find the answer.”
“Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream…You gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.”
Remember to listen, but to understand and take these with a grain of salt. Not everything is applicable to all situations at all times. Use it to keep you motivated, but never forget that the real motivation is believing in yourself and knowing you can do it.
