How old do you have to be to work at Toys “R” Us?
You have to be at least 18 years old to be able to work at Toys “R” Us. However, it really varies depending on what state you are in – some branches are pretty lenient and allow at least those who are 15-16 years old. To be sure, research in your area and find out the minimum age to work in your state.

What Toys “R” Us looks for in an employee:

• Must be friendly and courteous. You must be able to deal with customers of all ages, but most especially children. You have to be patient, kind and helpful as you assist the customers in finding toys that they like. Being imaginative and creative is a plus, as you will sometimes have customers who will need help and suggestion in finding toys as gifts.
• Eager to learn. Some toys would need demonstration and some technical know-how of handling them, and you will be on-hand to show this to the customer as well as teach them in return how to operate the toys.
• Energetic and lively. This doesn’t only pertain to being cheerful in front of the customer but an overall disposition of being strong, healthy and happy. Working at a toy store can be exhausting, so you need to be the kind of person who is a positive-thinker and go-getter.
• Good at math. You might be asked to handle the cashier and process orders from customers.
• Must love kids! The toy store is a wonderland and treasure trove for all children and the child inside adults as well. The store will be noisy and crazy and fun – and if you can’t stand the quiet and want everything to be filled with magic and explosions and other amazing stuff then this might be the job for you.

Tasks that you might be asked to handle at Toys “R” Us:

• Cashier
• Offer customer service to customers and ask them if they need any help or assistance
• Keeping the store clean
• Arranging the toys back on the places where they belong
• Restocking the toys on the shelves
• Processing applications for birthday clubs, instant credit, etc.

• Toys “R” Us offers students the opportunity for a 10-week paid summer internship program:
  • For undergraduates – the program consists of visiting different Toy “R” Us stores, joining workshop to teach you new skills and being mentored by senior employees. You might be working alongside store managers and participate in the daily operations of the store. They are usually looking for students who are proficient in using several programs under Microsoft Office. They also look at your grades (must have a minimum GPA of 3.0)
  • For graduate students – the program gives you the opportunity to network with employees and other professionals within the Toys “R” Us network. You might also be involve in assisting executives with regards to strategy, marketing and project management. They are looking for someone who has good communication and presentation skills and can work in a corporate setting.
• Toys “R” Us offers an employees assistance program to anyone who might need help with regards to financial issues, legal matters, childcare, and more.
• When applying for a job you will be asked to do a group interview as well as an individual interview.
