Each year, many thousands of high school and college students take summer jobs at national parks and camp grounds such as Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon or at other national parks.
If you love the outdoors, then the summer season is a great time for you to not only enjoy the beautiful out-doors but you can also earn some money at the same time by working at a camp or national park.

Every year, thousands of people visit national park and camps all over the country. As a result many of the national parks hire more than 10,000 seasonal employees to meet the needs of visitors and to help manage and take care of the parks. Some of the jobs that national parks offer are as follows:
Visitor assistant - this job involves working at various entrances in the park or at visitor centers, campgrounds or other stations. Your job would involve answering visitors’ questions about recreational facilities, collecting fees, distributing maps and brochures, providing directions, or working at a concession stand.
Park ranger - the job as a park ranger involves helping visitors to the park by explaining to them how to safely use the park resources and to make sure that their behavior meet with the guidelines of the park. It could entail answering their questions, explaining things to them, giving directions, presenting orientation or talks, conducting walks, demonstrations and campfire programs. You may also be called up to tell visitors about park facilities and resources such as visitor centers, campgrounds, historical sites and whatever else may be required of you.
Maintenance positions - in a job with maintenance of national parks you may be called upon to perform all kinds of maintenance jobs that sometimes require the ability to lift heavy objects, etc.
In addition to the jobs mentioned above, there are lots of other jobs that you may be able to apply for including: groundskeepers, cooks, laborers, cashiers, clerks and many other types of jobs.
When applying for summer jobs in national parks, it’s important to be sure to apply early because these are popular jobs that fill up quickly. For many of these jobs, you can apply directly at the parks themselves or you can check with your state park organization. Additionally, you can also check National Parks Services website for further details.
Another thing to keep in mind is that not all jobs offered by park services are outdoors. Some large parks also hire people to work in gift shops, hotels, restaurants, and equipment rental as well as to collect tickets, mow lawns, and things like this. It’s a great way to explore a new area of the country. Some of these jobs even provide housing for their summer workers, which can be a fun way to visit new places and make new friends.
Other places where you can look for exciting summer jobs include amusement parks, golf courses, landscaping companies and even community recreation programs that hire instructors to teach basketball, swimming, or other activities.
